Creature
From The Swamp |
Act I |
Setting: The frontier world, "The
Happy Hunting Grounds", 4289 |
|
The Tardis lands on the dry patch in the middle of
bog. The area, 3' deep in marshy water has clear cut trees around in
a perfect ciruclar pattern. In the far distance, they can see a large
building with two satellite dishes arises from it.
Arthur uses his Hitchhiker's Guide ot the Galaxy to
research the planet: It is a wilderness resort planet where people pay
to rest and camp and hunt wild beasts and other indiginous species.
They take a canoe from Tardis storage and begin paddling
out to explore the area. They find some wild creatures, such as giant
alligators and swooning giant herons. Save in their canoe, they sojourn
on. They notice the trees have been clear cut in a defined pattern of
strange circles and crossing lines, a little too perfect to be natural....
|
|
They arrive at a complex building with
strange unreadable writing on the front of it. . It was a large 100 x
100 structure with large heavy double doors at the south, east, and west
sides. They open the doors to find large advanced computer panels arising
from the floor every twenty feet for the length of the building. None
of operational. At the apex of the room is fourty feet of LCD panels,
also non-functional, and a single chair. As they approach, they find a
figure in the chair. As they touch the chair, the figure drops to the
floor, dead. |
|
The figure is dressed in garrish renaissance
clothing and leggings, but with strange black and red skin with hideous
green splotches all over it. Stan is not sure whether it is a sickness
or the natural palour of a species. |
|
One of the panels were knocked over and
spouting loose energy from cables in the floor. As Stan investigates this,
Woan and Arthur examine the west and east entrances, respectively: |
|
Woan approaches the westernmost panel.
A figure runs out of the darkness, escaping. Quickly, Woan pries open
the heavy western door to see a large white bloated figure escape into
the wilderness. |
|
Stanislaw examines the knocked over panel
and concludes that the structure is non-operational because of the broken
computer panel. Upon close examination, he sees that the cables connecting
the panel to the floor were professionally cut with bolt cutters or shears. |
As Arthur opens the easternmost door, he is greeted by four
natives. They all appear to have the same appearance as the dead man. They
introduce themselves as Stewards investigating why the Weather Control station
was damaged that morning. |
|
Stan claims to have been a vacationer
and is amazed that the weather control station allowed mere visitors enter
unmolested. The chief steward apologizes and orders an associate to drive
them back to the resort. |
|
When they arrive at the resort, Stan claims to the
administration that he and his companions had just arrived where they
had become embroiled in this mystery. She apologizes and arrives with
keys to rooms 12,13 and 14. She informs them dinner is being served in
the lounge. |
|
In the lounge they are greeted by foreign orc-like creatures
dressed in dungarees and aussie hats. In outrageous australian accents,
they are greeted by Bruce Packenwood, a member of the Super High Adventure
Club, vacationing at the Happy Hunting Grounds for a little sport. He introduces
his troop of eight: |
Bruce Packenwood
Bruce Hackenbush
Bruce Waxstaff
Bruce Kornblower
Bruce Moorehead
Bruce Tallywacker
Bruce J'Orgin
Bruce Danas
|
|
They are friendly and greet Stan and his companions with relish.
Upon examination, they seem to be the ultimate sportsmen, the ultimate eaters,
the ultimate drunkards, the ultimate swaggerers. Arthur seems quite taken
with them and they all drink and eat heartily. |
Packenwood, eager to have fun, asks Arthur if he would
be interested in playing a game of darts with them. Arthur eagerly agrees.
The Super High Adventure Club proceeds to pull out a lifesized dartboard
and strap Arthur to it. They spin the board and begin to throw axes
at it, frightening Arthur to no end. The first axe lands... and lands
in the dartboard inches from Arthur's crotch. Stan is shocked! "Darts,"
he explains, "are little tiny things with feathers in them with
rubber stickers on the end". Packenwood laughs heartily at that.
"You call that a dart? This, now this is a DART!"
|
|
The Bruces each take their turn throwing an axe at the board,
each narrowly missing Arthur. He has so much fun, he almost passes out.
After all eight have fired, they release Arthur. Then, one of the Bruces
climbs aboard the dartboard and the process begins again. Arthur is handed
an axe and shoots first, and amazingly hits the dartboard without hitting
the Bruce! |
|
Packenwood invites Arthur to their hunt
the next day, and introduces the creature they're hunting: it's an anthropomorphic
rabbit named Prey. Prey (a hole word in his language) was told that he'd
won the lottery and that tomorrow they were going on a hunt for him to
collect his prize. He was so estatic: think of all the shopping! Truly,
he did not know what was in store... |
