The TARDIS lands in what appears to be a deserted space station. Upon exploration, they discover a dead body wearing a uniform of an engineer or other worker, probably from the Earth Empire circa the early 32nd century. They decide to investigate further when they are confronted by Daleks! They try to flee but are surrounded and captured. They are brought before a Black Dalek who explains that this mining base is at one end of a time tunnel the Daleks have stumbled upon. They have been trying to find a way to reverse the tunnel to return to their current base of operations. They have just discovered a way, but are now interested in obtaining Stan’s TARDIS, realizing it is a powerful time-travel device. They ‘convince’ Stan to aid them and he helps repair the tunnel. The Daleks take his TARDIS through the tunnel when the base is attacked by mercenaries. The tunnel is destroyed and Stan and Jeff are rescued by the mercenaries.
They are lead by Captain Rattick, a man who has a vendetta against this particular band of Daleks and is concocting a crazy plan to destroy them; a plan which has already brought the number of his crew down to five from more than fifteen. Stan and Jeff agree to go with the mercenaries and even help them as it seems the best way to find the TARDIS. The mercenaries stop off at a space port on Indala Major to pick up something integral to Rattick’s plan of revenge. The port is attacked by a band of the Daleks, apparently trying to stop Rattick before he can complete his plan, whatever it is. The group escapes, at the cost of more of Rattick’s crew and Stan and Jeff learn Rattick’s plan. He has acquired a Taonn Nucleonic Missile. The missile does not have a propulsion system, but Rattick plans on arming the weapon and carrying it (aboard his ship); crashing it into the Dalek base. One of Rattick’s crew turns out to be an android traitor working for the Daleks, and disarms the missile as the ship flies towards the Dalek base. A fight ensues, killing all except Stan and Jeff who escape on a shuttle before the ship crashes. Because the missile was disarmed, the damage is minimal. In the aftermath of the explosion, Stan and Jeff find themselves no longer on the shuttle, but instead in some sort of arena in the middle of a gladiatorial game…
