The Past Chronicles


The Past Chronicles are novels (produced by BBC books) starring Stan's past incarnations leading up to the first story of the television series.

1st Incarnation

The Gilded Cutlery by Paul Magrs

Stan becomes embroiled in a metatextual dialog between writer and reader.
Can he sort out his ontological status before teatime?

The Gardens of Death by Martha Stewart
Lost in the the peruvian jungle in 1622, Stan is torn between a shrove and a rake. Will the crabgrass prevail?

2nd Incarnation

The Dustmen by Lawrence Miles
On the planet Xastrisis in the Earth Empire 2608, Stan and his companion, the shapeshifter Norman, run into the Entropy Cult, also known as the Dead Gang, also known as the Dustmen. This is a group dedicated to the death of the universe, to returning existence back to dust. Stan thwarts their plans, but is arrested by Adjudicators and the Dustmen escape.

3rd Incarnation

Contraband Of The Cybermen by John Anderson
Cybermen running for public office? Cybernetically enhanced JELL-O? Talking hats? Stan and his companion Papa Loa accidently invent the universe's most powerful narcotic, and just in time for tea.

My Boyfriend Taught me Bionic Sex! by Grant Morrison
Tripping hard, Stan and his companion Papa Loa pilot stealth bombers through a multiplicity of alternate Earths, chased by the Windowmen, who only speak in newspaper headlines and who want to destroy the space-time supersphere and replace it with a rubber duck. Hilarity ensues.

4th Incarnation

Dark Streets by Russell T. Davies
There's a serial killer on the loose on the streets of New York City in 1981. Stan is working as a cabbie. He gets entwined in the investigation and must eventually confront the killer. This novel is told from the point of view of Stan's fares.

5th Incarnation

Changes by David Bowie
Havoc ensues when Ancient Rome adopts Natasha's fashions. Stan, Natasha, Ernest and Carabus must travel to four major periods in history to save the world from a life of glittery spandex.

Medieval Times by J.R.R.R.R. Tolkien
What happens when King Richard's royal guards start dropping like flies? Sir Tifikat is found murdered by paper cuts. Sir Pryze, death by shock. Sir Ts, found under a mountain of breath mints. Sir Loin de Beof, a found in a slaughterhouse. Sir Vant, victim in an uprising of slaves. Natasha and Tuck find themselves trapped in a primitive jail with no escape.
Can Stan save Roman from certain death?

6th Incarnation

Folly by John De Lancie
Can Stan, Natasha and Paramanthea survive a planet made of quicksand? Can the deaf people of Hihion read Paramanthea's lips? Why are there so many questions?

These Trees were made for Walking by Terrance Dicks
Stan and his companions are implicated when clear cutting gets out of hand on a planet where the trees are sentient. Stan must stop the Earth Empire from turning Tau Sigma Beta into kindling.
